The dogs of this breed are powerful and active, sound and well put together, not clumsy, nor refined. The temperament of these dogs is alert and independent; they may tend to dominate. This breed is very intelligent, curious, adaptable, calm and always willing to please. These dogs are large; males stand 22-24 inches at the withers and weigh 65-75 pounds, and females are 21-22 inches high and weigh 55-65 pounds. The body is short coupled, with a deep chest and long ribs. Limbs of these dogs are muscular and capable of quick movement.

This breed is excellent as a first-time pet, because it’s very forgiving and devoted to the owner. To keep fit, these dogs need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Drill is not for them; these smart and agile dogs enjoy session of fetching, romping with other dogs, and so on. It’s a challenge to keep the coat of this breed healthy and well-groomed. These dogs have an abundance of coat as well as feathering and produce a constant amount of hair, especially in spring. Shedding can be alleviated with regular and thorough brushing, but people who have an aversion to dog hair, should not choose a pet of this breed.
