Golden Retrievers Photos - Coat

The Golden Retrievers have dense water repellent coat with good undercoat that ranges in color varying in the shades of lustrous golden. The feathering can be lighter than rest of coat. The coat on the face is of graying or whitening; there should not be any white markings and there are a few white hairs on the chest permissible.

There should not be many white markings on the body; light shadings are allowable. Predominant body color should be neither extremely pale nor extremely dark. Any noticeable area of black or other off-color hair is a serious fault.

The coat itself should be dense and water-repellent with good undercoat. The outer coat should be firm and resilient; neither coarse nor silky and lie close to the body. There can be feathering on the back of forelegs and on underbody; the ruff should be untrimmed and the feathering front of neck, back of thighs and underside of tail.

The coat on the head, paws, and front of legs should be short and even. There are the following faults that are the reasons to disqualify the dog in the show: open coats, soft coats and excessive length. Feet may be trimmed and stray hairs neatened.
